The main reasons can be hidden in hormonal background, improper care or even nutrition
Many people’s hair quickly “greasy”, so it is worth knowing how to effectively combat this. The main reasons for this may lie in the hormonal background, improper care or even diet. The Mirror website reports that.
Why hair gets greasy quickly
Trichologist Anabel Kingsle revealed that almost half of women (45 per cent) wash their hair only two to three times a week, 21 per cent every other day and just one in ten wash it daily.
The scalp is essentially an extension of the skin on the face, it gets rid of dead skin cells, produces sebum (fat) and collects dirt, dust and sweat.
Attached to each hair follicle is a sebaceous gland that also produces sebum, and infrequent hair washing can cause dirt, dead skin cells, grease and products to build up, making strands flabby and greasy, as well as clogging hair follicles, which can inhibit hair growth.
According to an expert, the main cause of oily hair is not washing it enough. Try to wash your hair every two days. You should spend about one minute washing it, while thoroughly massaging your scalp as you wash it.
People often forget to massage the back of the scalp. Rinse well so that the shampoo residue as well as dirt, grease and dead is gone.
Anabel also said that hair texture can play an important role in scalp oiliness. She explained that people with finer hair will generally have more hairs per centimetre compared to those with thicker or coarser hair. This means that more sebaceous glands produce sebum, which is why fine hair owners get greasy faster.
What to do to stop your hair from getting greasy quickly
The expert said that with proper washing and professional products for your hair type, you can avoid quick grease.
Using products that match the texture of your hair should not have “side effects”. For example, if they dry your hair, it’s because the composition of the product doesn’t give your hair what it needs, not because you’re over-washing your hair.
The best way to get rid of oily roots is to stick to a proper hair routine, which includes regular shampooing with an antimicrobial shampoo and a weekly scalp exfoliant containing piroctone olamine.
Look for a shampoo with a mild detergent such as SLES (sodium laureth sulfate). People are usually afraid of SLS in products because it can cause irritation. So if you have a sensitive scalp, use a sulfate-free shampoo.
“If you have fine hair, an oil-rich shampoo is likely to weigh your hair down and make it greasy and lifeless. Also, avoid using oils on your scalp as not only does it make your hair greasy, but it can aggravate conditions such as dandruff,” explained the trichologist.
