Leftover hard-boiled eggs should be kept in a closed container in the fridge.
Experts have shared tips on how to boil eggs perfectly so that they turn out exactly the way you want them every time, regardless of whether you like them hard-boiled or soft-boiled, Allrecipes reports.
“Very fresh eggs are delicious fried or scrambled, but older eggs are actually easier to peel. The best choice for hard-boiled eggs that are easy to peel are eggs that have been in the fridge for a week or two,” the publication says.
How to boil eggs perfectly – a proven method
Here are the three steps to perfect hard-boiled or soft-boiled eggs, advised:
- Put the eggs in a saucepan or ladle and fill with cold water.
- Put the pan over a high heat and bring the water to the boil. Remove the pan from the heat and cover with a lid. Leave the eggs in the hot water for 4-12 minutes, depending on how hard or set you want the yolks. The longer the eggs are in the hot water, the better the yolk will be cooked: soft-boiled eggs will take less time and hard-boiled eggs will take longer. Small eggs require less time and very large eggs more time.
- Immediately drain the water and place the eggs in a bowl filled with water and ice cubes.
If you plan to peel the eggs, lightly crack them before putting them in ice water and leave them for an hour to maximise ease of peeling, the article notes.
Leftover hard-boiled eggs are advised to be stored in the fridge in a covered container. In case you have already peeled the eggs, you can store them in an airtight container with a damp paper towel for up to one week. The towel should be renewed daily.
“If stored properly in the refrigerator, you can store hard-boiled eggs for up to one week. For best results, store hard-boiled eggs in their shells until you are ready to eat them,” the publication added.
