There are simple ways to overcome this problem

Static electricity is a very unpleasant phenomenon that causes your clothes to stick to your body and you get “electrocuted”. But there are simple ways to overcome this problem. Edition Real Simple, which simple techniques help against static electricity.

How to get rid of static electricity on clothes

Causes of static electricity on clothes

When fabrics rub against each other or against dry skin, they exchange electrons, and with repeated contact, each electron gets a positive or negative charge. The electrons continue to be attracted to each other and stick together, creating static electricity until something breaks that charge.

Add Moisture

While it’s helpful to keep the humidity level in your home at 30-50%, spraying water from a sprayer onto fabric can interrupt static electricity. Or use a damp cloth or paper towel to moisten the fabric. Make sure the fabric has time to dry before the next contact!

Use hand cream

Add moisture to your leather with hand cream to break the bond and stop sticking. To avoid stains, allow the cream to dry before smoothing the fabric.

Change your shoes to leather shoes

If your clothing causes an electrical discharge when it comes in contact with metal, wear leather shoes. Leather soles allow electricity to pass freely through your body after contact with stored electrons. Rubber soles act as a dielectric, which increases static electricity.

Add hairspray

The ingredients in hairspray coat the fibres of the fabric and help eliminate static electricity. Try spraying the varnish from inside the item or, if outside, keep the can 30cm away to avoid excessive residue on the fabric.

Air dry clothes

There are many factors in your washing machine that can contribute to static buildup. An automatic dryer creates static electricity due to friction caused by mechanical action and a habit of over-drying fabrics. Therefore, it is better to air dry your clothes on a tumble dryer or rope.

Sort your clothes by fabric type

Even if you sort your clothes before washing, sort them again before putting them in the dryer. Synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester retain their charge longer, which leads to more static electricity.

Add white vinegar to the rinse cycle

Adding half a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle will help reduce static electricity in your dryer. Vinegar helps to wash away detergent residue and relaxes fabric fibres, which reduces the likelihood of them sticking together during the mechanical drying process.

Use fabric softeners or dryer sheets

Cationic fabric softeners and dryer sheets coat the fabric fibres with positively charged ions that counterbalance the negative electrons in the dryer to prevent static buildup.
