What phrases a child should hear from parents every day: psychologists’ advice

  • “I love you.” Such words give the child the confidence that he is loved and precious to his parents. Psychologists are convinced that this phrase is fundamental for the formation of stable self-esteem and mental health of the child.
  • “I understand you.” These words will help a toddler deal with complex issues, from a lost item to personal relationships with the opposite sex. The child will know that he or she is understood and accepted no matter what, that he or she will be heard no matter what.
  • “You will do well/I believe in you.” Parents should encourage their children with these words. After all, the smallest task may seem very difficult to a child because he/she does not yet know what he/she is capable of. If you say these phrases to your child every day, he or she will learn to overcome all difficulties quite easily and will grow up to be a confident person.
  • “How was your day?” These words should be used to end the day to discuss important events that the child has had. The child will get used to discussing with his parents what happens to him during the day – this will build his trust in adults. Thus, in adolescence, there will be no difficulties in communicating with the child. After all, his habit of talking to his parents will help to establish productive communication and avoid many misunderstandings that arise at this age.
