The perfect spring cleaning involves doing tasks that would normally be put off until later in the year
Spring is a great time to get your home in order. If you want to welcome the new season clean and tidy, our spring cleaning tips will help make the process simple, quick and even enjoyable.
If you don’t know where to start cleaning, here are five useful tips to help you get your home in order.
Preparation is half the battle
Start the day with a good breakfast to build up your energy for all the tasks ahead. Don’t worry about calories – you’ll burn them off while cleaning anyway!
Do it in stages
Clean by room: living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, and don’t forget the balcony.
First, clean up all the scattered things around you. Think: do you need them or can you get rid of them? Then move on to the saw. Take a brush and dust the furniture, shelves and knick-knacks, then wipe it down, moving from top to bottom.
And lastly, vacuum and mop the floor, starting with the furthest corners. When you’re done with the rooms, move on to the kitchen and bathroom.
If you’re tired or don’t have the energy to clean anymore, don’t worry – just do it the next day.
Be ruthless during sorting
No matter what room you are cleaning, do it with determination. Get rid of long-worn old clothes, unnecessary knick-knacks that clean up space and collect dust, outdated cosmetics and broken appliances that are no longer worth repairing.
Clean everywhere
The perfect spring cleaning involves doing tasks that would normally be put off for later. These include washing windows, washing curtains, cleaning doors and handles, and tidying up the balcony.
Don’t forget the plants – they will appreciate a gentle spritz of warm water and a dusting of the leaves.
Take as much time as you need to clean
Spring cleaning takes time. It’s best to plan it for the weekend, when you have plenty of free time and don’t feel stressed about having to do things quickly.
Vacuuming, sweeping and mopping the floor all day is hard physical labour. So don’t forget to take breaks, have a cup of coffee and a snack. When you finish cleaning your room, stop for a moment, look at the result and praise yourself for your efforts.
