Learn how to protect cucumbers from black aphids and mites with simple folk remedies
Black aphids are very dangerous for vegetables and can destroy them in a matter of days. The pest attacks cucumbers especially often. If you see black dots on the leaves, it’s time to start the fight. For prevention, dacha growers are recommended to treat seedlings in advance, back in April or May.
We will tell you how to make a universal remedy for aphids, so that vegetables were safe. An effective preparation can be prepared at home and used not only on cucumbers, but also on other plants.
What is the most effective preparation from aphids
All gardeners agree that the best remedy for aphids is physical removal with a water jet or brush. This method causes the insects to fall from the plant to the ground. However, they do not die and can climb back onto the leaves.
To get rid of pests for good, prepare a folk remedy for aphids and spray cucumbers. Soap solution shows good efficiency. In 10 litres of water, dissolve 5 tablespoons of liquid soap and 3 tablespoons of sunflower oil. The mixture envelops the insects and washes off the bushes. If aphids return, repeat the treatment after 5 days.
A decoction of onion husks helps well from insects. Pour 200 g of peelings in 10 litres of boiling water. Leave the mixture to infuse for 3 days and spray the problem areas.
Another remedy for aphids at home is prepared from hydrogen peroxide. It is also effective against other insects and diseases. Mix 50 ml of 3% peroxide and 2 tablespoons of sugar in 1 litre of water. Pour into a sprayer and treat vegetable beds.
High efficiency shows ammonia alcohol from aphids. Dissolve 50 ml of ammonia in a bucket of water and additionally 3 tablespoons of liquid soap. Pests are very afraid of this remedy.
If you think how to get rid of aphids on cucumbers with the help of chemical preparations, then turn to an agro shop. Insecticides are very effective in fighting pests, but they have several disadvantages. Firstly, they also kill useful insects (for example, ladybirds – enemies of aphids), and secondly, they are prohibited during the fruiting period. If fruits have appeared on cucumbers, use only folk remedies.
